WHAT'S THE GOAL?
The goal of the program is to provide an exercise regimen that runners can use during winter months to help “mix up” their workouts and strengthen muscles needed for training to maximize their performance and help to prevent injury.

According to Dr. Wright, cross training is one of the most effective means for minimizing training injuries and developing stronger muscles. However the majority of runners don’t incorporate cross training into their training regimen which can contribute to the prevention of shin splints, stress fractures, knee problems and hip injuries common in distance runners. The Dick’s Sporting Goods Marathon and Vonda Wright, M.D. are launching this national program to educate long-distance runners on a national level about the importance of cross training.
