Cross Training

SPECIAL FIRST-OF-ITS-KIND CROSS TRAINING SERIES 

Dick’s Sporting Goods Pittsburgh Marathon Teams Up with Dr. Vonda Wright to Offer Special Series for Injury Prevention and Muscle Strengthening.  The comprehensive program includes a series of cross training videos, tools and tips and a gym-based eight week training program to be held at the Rivers Club starting in February.

WHAT'S THE GOAL?
The goal of the program is to provide an exercise regimen that runners can use during winter months to help “mix up” their workouts and strengthen muscles needed for training to maximize their performance and help to prevent injury.

8 week-series will be offered at the following days and times; runners may attend one session per week.
Mondays - 5:30 PM
Wednesdays - 6:15 AM
Thursdays - 1:00 PM

Steel City Road Runners Club members - $99

According to Dr. Wright, cross training is one of the most effective means for minimizing training injuries and developing stronger muscles. However the majority of runners don’t incorporate cross training into their training regimen which can contribute to the prevention of shin splints, stress fractures, knee problems and hip injuries common in distance runners. The Dick’s Sporting Goods Marathon and Vonda Wright, M.D. are launching this national program to educate long-distance runners on a national level about the importance of cross training.
