(James T. McCay) Water and fuel demands increase as your running distance increases. Have about one-half cup of fluids every twenty minutes and a snack of simple carbohydrates (such as sports gels, packets of honey, and energy drinks), every 45 minutes. Avoid fiber, protein and fat because these take longer to digest and can cause stomach cramps. For recovery nutrition, don't forget that real food can be just as good as, if not better than, sports bars and powders. |

The volunteer positions are listed by date and time. So please review carefully to find the best volunteer position for you.

Click here to sign up as a group and ensure that you and your group all volunteer together. *Note: Due to the number of different positions at the medical aid stations, volunteer groups cannot be created for medical volunteers.
We welcome all ages of volunteers but some positions may be inappropriate for young children. The safety of our runners, walkers, wheelers and volunteers is essential. Email volunteers@pittsburghmarathon.com if you have specific questions about volunteer positions and their age appropriateness. All volunteers under 18 must have adult supervision.

MEDICAL VOLUNTEERS
Doctors, nurses, athletic trainers – we need you! Choose your location on the course and invite your friends to join you! From start line to finish line and aid stations on the course, you’ll help the runners, walker and wheelers achieve their goal!

GENERAL VOLUNTEERS
We need volunteer all weekend long, April 30 – May 2, 2010, to support our many activities related to the Dick’s Sporting Goods Pittsburgh Marathon. Check out our General volunteers jobs.
GNC Live Well Health and Fitness Expo Volunteers
Greeters, information booth, t-shirt and runner packet distribution are just some of the positions available. Choose your shift and invite your friends to join you! Greet runners and help them get their race packets and information for the big race on Sunday.
Shifts Available:
Friday: 10:45am-2:45pm or 2:30-7:15pm
Saturday : 8:45am-1:15pm or 1:00pm-5:15pm
Sunday: 7:45am-2:00pm ![]()
Kids Marathon Volunteers
From start line to finish line, you’ll help the kids prepare and run the 1 mile race. Choose your shift and invite your friends to join you!
