We are no longer accepting schools in the Kids of STEEL Program for 2012. If you are interested in receiving information for 2013, please email Katie Pavlich at kpavlich@pittsburghmarathon.com. Kids of STEEL Program Presented by Giant Eagle is an exercise and nutrition program developed to promote healthy lifestyle habits in kids STEEL Run challenges kids to run 26.2 miles over 18 weeks. Kids will run 25.2 miles leading up to race weekend and their final mile at the Kids Marathon. Click here to download the running log and start keeping track of your miles! Turn in your completed log on race weekend to receive your STEEL Run finisher’s prize. STEEL Taste encourages kids to make healthier food choices by tasting, studying and sharing with their family different nutritious foods. Click here to download the tasting list and start munching! Try at least 60 of 100 items on the list to receive your Certificate of Achievement. Turn in your completed log on race weekend and receive your STEEL Taste certificate. |
PARTICIPATION IS EASY! Follow these simple steps:

| Complete the school registration form and fax to 412-202-3494 or email to kpavlich@pittsburghmarathon.com. | Complete the online child permission form or the printable child permission form. |
| Promote the program using the video found on this website and a letter home to the parents (to be provided). | Email (kpavlich@pittsburghmarathon.com), fax (412-202-3494) or mail the permission form to Dick's Sporting Goods Pittsburgh Marathon, 810 River Avenue, Suite 120, Pittsburgh, PA 15212 |
| Collect a signed child permission form for each participant and mail them to the Marathon office at 810 River Avenue, Suite 120, Pittsburgh, PA 15212. | Register online for the Toyota of Pittsburgh Kids Marathon. |
| Provide each child with a STEEL Run log and a STEEL Taste log. The program is flexible and can be coordinated through a PE class or as an after school club. | Print out the STEEL Run and STEEL Taste logs and begin recording your child's progress. |
| Ensure your participants are registered for the Toyota of Pittsburgh Kids Marathon on May 5, 2012 | Pick up your child's race packet at the Pittsburgh Health and Fitness Expo, Friday, May 4 or on race morning, May 5, 2012. |
| Distribute student's race materials (shirts, race numbers and goody bag) prior to the Kids Marathon | Turn in your logs at packet pick up or on race morning and receive your finishers prize and Certificate of Achievement |

If you are a teacher or administrator interested in implementing this program in your school, please contact Katie Pavlich at kpavlich@pittsburghmarathon.com. Schools are eligible for complimentary registrations, $1,000 in grant money for their P.E. program (one, $1,000 grant will be drawn at random, based upon registration of 50 or more students in Kids of STEEL) and other benefits!
