Join us for the seventh running of the DICK’S Sporting Goods Pittsburgh Marathon weekend of events! The weekend kicks-offs on Friday, May 1, 2015 with the GNC Live Well Pittsburgh Health and Fitness Expo. On Saturday, May 2, we’ll host the UPMC Health Plan/UPMC Sports Medicine Pittsburgh 5K Run, Toyota of Pittsburgh Kids Marathon and Purina Pro Plan Pittsburgh Pet Walk. The weekend will close on Sunday, May 3 with the DICK’S Sporting Goods Pittsburgh Marathon, UPMC Health Plan Pittsburgh Half Marathon, and FedEx Ground Pittsburgh Marathon Relay.

REGISTRATION QUESTIONS

Can I get a refund or defer to the next year if I am unable to participate in the Marathon, Half Marathon, Marathon Relay, 5K or Kids Marathon?
We do not offer refunds or deferments. If you are unable to participate and do not wish to pick-up your race shirt and goody bag, you may transfer your registration to another runner. Many unregistered participants search Facebook when looking for a registration. Once you have an interested participant, see the transfer registration information below. Please note that only Marathon and Half Marathon participants can transfer a registration.

Does this race offer event switching or registration transfers?
Yes, switching and transferring is available prior to event sellout for the DICK'S Sporting Goods Pittsburgh Marathon and UPMC Health Plan Pittsburgh Half Marathon.

How can I make a claim for the race insurance I purchased with my registration?
Our organization does not provide the insurance you purchased. The insurance is provided by Active is through a third-party insurance company, Allianz Travel Insurance. You will need to contact ATI directly to process any claims:

I would like to participate in the Marathon/Half Marathon/Relay, but do not meet the minimum age requirements. Can I still participate?
It is possible to receive a medical age waiver from our Medical Director. Please send an email to kpavlich@pittsburghmarathon.com listing the following information:

• Name
• Date of Birth
• Event you would like to participate in
• If you will be participating in the event with a parent/guardian or not
• Training plan for the event
• Running history

Please be sure and include “Medical Age Waiver” in the subject line of the email. All decisions of the Medical Director are final.

MARATHON/HALF MARATHON QUESTIONS

How long do I have to complete the race?
The Half Marathon course will be open for 3.5 hours and the Marathon course will be open for 6 hours. There will be two checkpoints along the course that will require participants to meet at least a 14:00 minute/mile pace. Any participants that do not meet these requirements must board a sweep vehicle, which will drop off near the finish line.

Do you offer pace leaders?
Yes, participants can meet the pace team at the GNC Live Well Health and Fitness Expo. Please check back for more information regarding our pace team.

Is your course hilly?
Our course is fairly level for the first 12 miles. At that point it climbs 200 feet, over the next 2 miles, before it levels off. The last 4.5 miles of the course area is a net downgrade. Dick's Sporting Goods Pittsburgh Marathon and UPMC Health Plan Pittsburgh Half Marathon elevation charts are available on each event page.

What is the course like?
The course is closed to automobile traffic. It is a scenic tour of the bridges and neighborhoods of the city of Pittsburgh. Many of the neighborhoods hold festivals on race day. The crowd support is excellent, and music by the mile will add to the festivities. There are many points at which the crowd can view the participants.

Can you tell me about your water and aid stations?
There will be 20 fluid stations and 16 aid stations along the route. The aid stations are staffed by the UPMC Sports Medicine medical personnel and trainers. Medical aid stations will also be available at the start and finish lines. Click here for more information about fluid/aid station locations and amenities.

Is the DICK'S Sporting Goods Pittsburgh Marathon a “Boston Qualifier”?
Yes, it is a sanctioned, certified course.

May I use a baby jogger, MP3 player or I-Pod, roller blades, scooter, headphones or ear buds?
Baby joggers, roller blades and scooters are prohibited. MP3 players, iPods, headphones or ear buds are strongly discouraged.

RELAY QUESTIONS

Does my relay team need to have 5 runners?
No, a relay team can have anywhere from 2-5 team members. Please note that all relay team members must be registered on a team before online registration closes. Each individual team member not registered online will incur a fee to be added to a relay team race weekend at the GNC Live Well Pittsburgh Health and Fitness Expo.

I am registered for the Marathon Relay. Can I switch to another race weekend event?
Due to the team registration functionality, race switching is not available for the Marathon Relay. You cannot switch from the Marathon, Half Marathon or 5K into the Marathon Relay and vice versa.

I am a team captain. Do I still need to register as a team member?
Team captains will automatically be registered as a team member when they register, pay and create a Relay team. Team captains do not have to register a second time as a team member. If you are not participating on the relay team that you are creating, you should not create the team as you will automatically be registering yourself to run and will count toward your team maximum of 5 members.

Can I participate in the Marathon/Half Marathon and the Marathon Relay?
Yes, participants who are registered for the Marathon or Half Marathon, can also participate on a Relay team; however, the participant must officially register for both events. Runners that will continue on to run the Marathon or Half Marathon must run the first leg of the relay. On race day, pin your Relay race number over the Marathon/Half Marathon race number on the front of your shirt and the white Relay designation on your back. When you complete the first leg of the relay, volunteers will assist you in removing your Relay race numbers from the front and back of your shirt. You will also need to remove your Relay D-Tag from your shoe so you can continue on as a Marathon or Half Marathon runner. Do not continue running until your Relay D-Tag and Relay race numbers are removed.

PACKET PICK-UP QUESTIONS

Where is packet pick up located?
Packet pick up is located at the GNC Live Well Health and Fitness Expo in Halls D and E at the David L. Lawrence Convention Center - 1000 Ft. Duquesne Blvd in downtown Pittsburgh on Friday, May 2, 2014 and Saturday, May 3, 2014.

How do I pick up my packet?
All participants will be emailed a race packet confirmation ticket 1-2 weeks prior to the race weekend. Participants will need to show this email (either an electronic or hard copy) AND photo ID to pick up your participant packet - which includes your race number, participant shirt and goody bag - at the GNC Live Well Pittsburgh Health and Fitness Expo. Please note that race packet confirmation tickets will NOT be mailed to participants this year.

What if I am unable to pick up my packet?
If you are unable to pick up your participant packet in person during regular GNC Live Well Pittsburgh Health and Fitness Expo hours, someone else may pick it up for you. The person picking up your packet is required to present your race number, a copy of your photo ID and provide his/her contact information.

Do you offer race day packet pick up?
There is no race day packet pick up.

HEALTH AND FITNESS EXPO QUESTIONS

What are the dates and hours of the Health and Fitness Expo?
The GNC Live Well Pittsburgh Health and Fitness Expo will be held Friday, May 1 and Saturday, May 2, 2015. 

Where will the Health and Fitness Expo be held?
The Expo will take place at the David Lawrence Convention Center which is located in downtown Pittsburgh, 1000 Fort Duquesne Blvd, Pittsburgh, PA 15222.

Where and when can I pick up my runner packet?
Packet pick up will be held at the GNC Live Well Pittsburgh Health and Fitness Expo during all regular Expo hours on Friday, May 1 and Saturday, May 2, 2014. There will be no packet pick up on Sunday, May 3, 2015 or at DICK'S Sporting Goods Stores.

CHARITY PROGRAM QUESTIONS

How do I fundraise for a charity not listed on the Pittsburgh Marathon website?
Visit our CrowdRise page for a list of additional participating organizations OR follow the steps below:

1. Visit our CrowdRisepage
2. Click “Set Up Your Fundraiser”
3. Select “Start Your Own Fundraiser”
4. Follow the steps to populate your fundraising page
5. Search for your charity to choose them as your beneficiary and that's it

How do I receive a free race entry through the charity program?
Runners that commit to fundraise for one of the official Run for a Reason charities will receive a free race entry into their choice of 2015 DICK’S Sporting Goods Pittsburgh Marathon race weekend. Runners fundraising for organizations outside of the Run for a Reason charity program must secure their own race entry via purchase.

How much do I need to fundraise?
Each charitable organization facilitates their own fundraising efforts. Please contact the individual charity for specific answers to fundraising questions. On average runners can anticipate to raise the following amounts per event:

• Marathon - $500
• Half Marathon - $350
• Marathon Relay Team - $750 per team
• 5K - $150
• Kids Marathon - $50


What is the difference between a Run for a Reason charity and a contributing charity?

Run for a Reason Charity - this program is limited to organizations that apply to be within with program and meet qualifying program standards. Run for a Reason charities provide their runners with a free race entry with a fundraising commitment. Organizations must apply and meet qualifying program standards to be accepted.

Contributing Charities - as a contributing charity, each organization is recognized for their efforts and a crucial part of the giving community. Race entries are not included within fundraising for a contributing charity. Runners must secure their own race entry.


How does an organization apply to be a Run for a Reason charity?
The 2015 Run for a Reason charity program is currently closed to new applicants. Organizations are encouraged to participate as a contributing charity!  To be placed on the 2016 program waitlist, please email runforareason@pittsburghmarathon.com.


How does an organization apply to be a contributing charity?
As a contributing charity, each organization is recognized for their efforts and a crucial part of the giving community. There is no cost involved to be a contributing charity and participation is easy. Simply click here to apply, recruit participants and raise money!
